8 TIPS ON HOW TO FORM AN EFFECTIVE PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

1. The aim of every human being should be to formulate a personal philosophy of life. One that will assist in the fulfillment of goals.

2. Build a sound personal philosophy by studying the philosophies of the great thinkers of the past and present.

3. Delve into philosophy, theology, metaphysics, psychology and psychic phenomena. Learn all you can about life.

4. The structure of your philosophy should be based on spiritual truths found in the Bible.

5. Set high standards for yourself to live up to. Practice the presence of God in your life.

6. Love yourself and your fellow man. All you owe anyone is love. An expression of love is one which attempts to make others truly happy in an unselfish way. Focus on love, dissolve hate, resentment and hostility.

7. Seek to express more and to experience more each day. Develop and use your creative talents.

8. The past should only be thought of in terms of ‘experience’ gained. The past is washed away by the tide of the future.

7 TIPS ON HOW TO GROW OLD AND NOT MIND IT

1. Continue to widen your interest. Not all of us can go to foreign country but, long before old age, everyone can begin to look forward to learning new things, to pursuing pastimes and developing skills. You can expose yourself to new interests in many ways, such as browsing through library shelves, attending lectures, joining in civic or welfare activities. Inquiry into things that are new to you quickens the mind and heart.

2. Be eager to continue your life. Aging is a process in which most people do more things for the last time, and fewer for the last time and fewer for the first time. Reverse that and you have an antidote for growing old.

3. Be affectionate. Love is one of the most powerful stimulants to a longer, happier life. Human warmth is, of course, not limited to romantic love; devotion to you fellow man serves equally well. The faculty of being genuinely concerned about other enriches any one’s life. The earlier one acquires it, the better fortified he will be for his later years.

4. Don’t let emotions rule you. Giving in to anger is one of our unhealthiest habits. Avoid heated arguments and strong emotional conflicts.

5. Don’t worry. Worry is just a bad emotional habit; like any habit, it can be broken if you make sufficient effort.

6. Make friends easily. As you grow older you must accustom yourself to the loss of lifelong friends and be prepared to make others. To do so, you must have something to offer. You don’t need money; offer whatever is pleasant and useful in you.

7. Have religious faith. Religious counselors agree that the real comfort of faith come but faintly to elderly persons who have previously neglected it. How much richer life is for those whose faith helps them constantly during the stresses and trials of everyday living.

8 TIPS ON HOW TO DEVELOP HUMILITY

1. Be sincere with yourself and with others.

2. Understand your needs and the needs of others.

3. Learn that we are what we are and that we don’t have to keep up with the Joneses.

4. Extend your ability to listen and learn.

5. Constantly build an inner sense of values and adhere to them.

6. Build a state of peacefulness through understanding instead of making mountains of molehills.

7. Look for new horizons, new success and reach out for them.

8. The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is maturity. With maturity you will understand humility, and with humility you will be a successful human being. There is no humiliation in humility. It takes time to acquire humility, but it is worth it since it brings hamppiness.

4 TIPS ON HOW TO APPLY FAITH IN YOURSELF

1. Think success and believe that you are capable of being successful. Cease to think in terms of what you can not do, but in terms of what you can do. Never think failure. Failure is anti-faith.

2. When opportunity appears, hold the deep conviction that, ‘This is right for me. I will success.’

3. Believe BIG. The size of your success is not determined by the size of your brain but by the zie of your faith. Think BIG achievements and back them with BIG faith.

4. Affirm this belief: ‘Faith is an attitude of mind. Faith is belief in myself, things, other people and God. I live in Faith.’

14 TIPS ON HOW TO BE AT EASE AT BANQUETS

 1. Talk all you want during a meal, but keep quite during the presentation. It’s rude to interrupt a guest speaker.

2. Banquets rarely allow enough room for everyone to sit comfortable. So keep your elbows in as if they were taped to your ribs. Women should put large purses on the floor between their feet.

3. Begin eating when the head table and a few people around you have been served.

4. If the person next to you eats your salad or drinks your coffee, quietly ask the waitress for another.

5. If you don’t want coffee, you may ask for tea or milk, if you prefer.

6. If you spill something, don’t fuss. It will make everyone uncomfortable.

7. If relishes, rolls or butter are in front of you, start passing them.

8. If no bread plate is handy, use the edge of your salad or dinner plate for your roll and butter.

9. Ash trays are for ashes…plates are for food. If no ash trays are hand, don’t smoke.

10. Don’t leave silverware in coffee cups, salad bowls or dessert dishes. Leave utensils on the dinner plate or saucer.

11. If you find lipstick on your cup or egg on a fork, ask quietly for a replacement.

12. At a family-style dinner, pass all dishes the same way around the table – either direction is all right.

13. If you haven’t gotten enough to eat, don’t complain. Pick up a sandwich on the way home.

14. Above all, remember that a banquet is an occasion of honor for a person or an organization.
